The varsity water polo team rebounded from its first loss of the season with an impressive 15-3 victory over Mason. The Chiefs built an 8-0 lead before Mason tallied their first goal of the game.
Katie Dudley paced the team with four goals, freshman Isabella Morris tallied three, Alex Chow and Sarah Williams had two each, Carly Seeterlin, Ryan Quillinan, Sydney Fountain, and Molly Schools tallied one goal each to round out the scoring. The team tallied 10 assists from eight different players to show the balanced attack that has been so successful this season.
In goal, Rachel Sternik made two stops in two quarters of play. Dawn Hawkins stopped the only shot she faced in the third, and Katie Dudley stopped four shots in the final period of play.
With the win, the varsity team improves to 20-1 including a 4-0 CAAC and district mark. The victory means the team clinches the #1 overall seed for this weekend’s district tournament at East Lansing. The first game for the chiefs will be a quarterfinal match-up against Haslett at 4 pm on Friday, May 9th at ELHS. The winner will advance to Saturday’s 10:30 am semi-final game and then either the 3:30 pm 3rd place or 4:45 pm championship game.
